It was an experimental project by the Germans in World War 2 called the Mistel. The Mistel project used an assault glider filled with explosives as an unguided bomb, which was delivered by the fighter. But it never saw operation in war. However the model of this project here by Kamal Parvez from Islamabad and it has taken the flight.

Challenge faced:

This build was a challenging one not only to build but to fly as well. Following are the comments of Kamal Parvez about its flight challenges:

The main challenge was at what attitude to mount the fighter with respect to the glider and the effect of the coupled forces of the two.
In the end, I took Raja Sabri’s advice and rigged the wings of the fighter at the same incidence as the glider.
The high thrust line dictates one to open power on take off gradually, to prevent a nose over. But the wing of the glider soon starts generating lift and after that the whole contraption flies like any other powered glider.
